We are continuing our study of "Atoms and Elements" with the Periodic table this week! Essential Question:  How are elements arranged on the periodic table? How can the properties of elements be predicted based on its location in the periodic table? Objectives: - Describe that as you move from left to right in a period (row) on the Periodic Table, the number of protons increases by one. ∙ Describe that elements found in the same group/family (column) have the same properties. ∙ Recognize that elements are grouped in the Period Table of Elements according to their properties. ∙ Predict which elements would have properties similar to a given element. Welcome to 8th grade Science

I am so pleased to have you in my 8th grade science class! We are going to have an amazing year :) 1. What should I expect in Ms. Smiley Belle's class?  The class  syllabus  includes important information about our science class this year.  A hard copy will be given out during class the first week of school. 2. What materials do I need?  Students will need a composition journal and tape for my class. The journal will stay in the classroom :) Other appreciated items that can be donated throughout the year include: Scotch Tape  Glue sticks Pencils Colored Copy Paper CLOROX WIPES! Wednesday is Early Dismissal Day! Early Dismissal will be at 2:30 p.m. this year :)  Essential Question : What are the parts of the atom? How do the subatomic particles of an atom compare?
